Eclipse Audio System

Innovative wall mounted sound system that integrates modern audio formats with traditional vinyl.

The research laid the foundation for the potential directions of the project. A series of interviews were conducted with three separate individuals who commonly experience power outages. A commonality between interviews was the mention of smartphones as the first thing the interviewee would reach for when the power goes out. However, the smart-phone was found to be only useful in a pinch due to the lack of diffusion and inability to light a larger area.

Three different design paths were chosen and narrowed down through interviewee feedback and meetings with the design director. The final shape resembles the familiar form of a smartphone. The diffuser contains three powerful 9 watt LEDs with the ability to light a large room. The button presents itself clearly centered on the device, flanked by four charging indicator LEDs for ease of use. The indicators each represents 25% charge, all four will be lit when fully charged via USB Type-C.
